Our Process
Mizell Development is a reforestation contractor. Where harvesting ends, we begin. We specialize in mechanical site prep of timber plantations for replanting. We also provide herbicide spraying and planting for those customers who want this additional turnkey service.
Step 1
Chopping
Once the land is cleared of all marketable trees, a process known as clear cutting, the land is "chopped" with a drum chopper pulled by a specialized tractor called a skidder.
Step 2
Debris Consolidation
After chopping is completed, a raking tractor is used to rake and pile any debris that remains.
Step 3
Bedding
A skidder, pulling a specialized forestry bedding plow, is then used to create rows of beds for planting the new tree seedlings.
Step 4
Spraying
Following the mechanical site prep, herbicide is sprayed onto the prepared fields to reduce competition from other vegetation until the seedlings are established.
Step 5
Planting
The last step is planting of the seedlings. We hand plant containerized slash or loblolly pine tree seedlings into the prepared beds.
